PU achieves global recognition in QS subject rankings 2026

LAHORE: (Thursday, March 26, 2026): Punjab University has secured a significant milestone in the QS Subject Rankings 2026, achieving an overall world ranking of 542, reflecting its growing academic excellence and research impact.
The university has demonstrated outstanding performance at the national level, securing the top position in Pakistan in the disciplines of Linguistics and Education.
According to the ranking details, several disciplines of the university have achieved commendable global standings. Petroleum Engineering has been ranked between 101–150 globally, while Pharmacy & Pharmacology and Mathematics secured positions in the 151–200 range. Similarly, Statistics & Operational Research has been ranked between 251–275, and Chemistry fell within the 251–300 global ranking. Agriculture & Forestry, Physics & Astronomy and Chemical Engineering has been ranked between 301-350, Computer Science & Information Systems, Materials Science and Environmental Science between 351-400, Engineering & Technology, Economics & Econometrics, Natural Sciences, Business & Management, Education, Biological Sciences and Social Sciences & Management have been ranked between 401-450 and medicine secured position in 551-600 global rank.
In a statement, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has termed this achievement a reflection of strong academic reputation, quality research output, and increasing international recognition of the university. He said that PU’s global ranking reflects the university’s diverse academic strength. He said that the achievement reinforces the university’s position as one of Pakistan’s leading higher education institutions contributing to national development and global knowledge.
